Debrecen Airport was opened to international traffic in 2001.

In 2004, as the first regional airport in Hungary, it was declared as an international airport with the status of a permanent border crossing and customs route, this way becoming equal to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport on authority level.

Debrecen Intenational Airport has an on-site permanent immigration office, customs, police and national security service, enabling aircrafts to land any time of the day and year at the airport.

In 2011, XANGA has acquired majority shares in Airport Debrecen Ltd, the company having the licence to operate Debrecen International Airport for 75+25 years.

XANGA’s aim is to develop the infrastructure and the services of the airport so that it can become one of the most prominent and the most competitive regional international airport (both with regard to passenger and cargo traffic) within the Schengen Zone in the European Union.
